Elaine F. Schanze Hack
Lost Nation. Elaine F. Schanze Hack, age 92, passed away on Friday June 7, 2013 at the DeWitt Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at 10:30 A.M at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland with Reverend John Cofield officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Wheatland. Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 11, 2013 from 4-7 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland.

Elaine was born on May 14,1921 to Earl and Emma (Schnede) Dann in rural Low Moor, Iowa. She married Gilmore Schanze on September 13, 1941. He died on January 12, 1963. She married Emil Hack on May 28, 1966. He died on January 12, 1997.

Elaine was a member of St. Paul's Church, Ladies Aid, Martha Aid and the Massillon Ladies Club.She was a big Cubs fan and a draft horse enthusiast. She loved her garden, her flowers and especially all of her grandchildren. She also had enjoyed going dancing in the past years with her husbands. She had been a farm wife and a school teacher.

Elaine is survived by her daughters, Sherrie (Don Reynolds) Dake of Milan, Ill. and Glenda (Jim) Lee of Wheatland; granddaughters, Laurie (Terry) Stebral of Solon, Pam (Jason) Martensen of Onslow and Tamyra (Christian) Goss of Valparaiso, IN.; four great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Carmelee McBeth of Burlington, Sherami (Terry) Thines of Baldwinsville, New York and Jolene (Keith) Brown of West Branch; several step grandchildren, and several step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters, Evelyn Riedesel and Earleen Muhl; and son-in-law Larry McBeth.

Darrell J. Yutesler
Clarence. Darrell J. Yutesler, age 80 of Clarence and formerly of Lowden, passed away on Monday June 3, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held on Thursday June 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M at the St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will be at the Inland Cemetery in Bennett with military honors. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M until service time.

Darrell was born on November 23, 1932 in Little Sioux, Iowa. He married Lois Licht on May 26, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden.

Darrell was a member of St. John's UCC and the Lowden Legion and enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and was a retired farmer. Darrell served as an elder at the United Church of Christ in Lowden for four years and served on the Cedar County draft board for 10 years. He was a sergeant in the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart. He served in Hawaii, Germany, Korea and Japan. Darrell also enjoyed going on the honor flight with his daughter, Linda in November of 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; sons, Terry (Kris) of Bennett, Rick (Sheila) of Bettendorf; and Darrell Jr. (Jody) of Lowden; daughter, Linda (Mike) Anderson of Bennett; foster brother, Ken (Marcia) Richmann of Clarence; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his foster parents, Edgar and Mildred Richmann; his twin brother, Carrell; brother, Billy; and granddaughter, Jodi Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John's UCC, Clarence Ambulance, or Clarence or Lowden Fire Departments.

Lloyd Henry Burmeister
Tipton. Lloyd Henry Burmeister, age 85, of Tipton and formerly of Clarence, passed away on Sunday May 26, 2013 at the Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. Funeral Services will be held
on Friday May 31, 2013 at 11:00 A.M at the Clarence United Methodist Church with Pastor Carol Mart officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery at a later date with graveside military rites by VFW Post 2537 and American Legion Post 123. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 30, 2013 from 4-7 P.M at Chapman's in Clarence.

Lloyd was born to John and Clara (Gade) Burmeister on December 3, 1927 in Lowden. He married Fannie Collins on January 27, 1951 in Solam, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie of Tipton; four daughters, Bonnie Burmeister of Stanwood, Barbara (Eugene E.) Kula of Anamosa, son; Bobby (Kelly) Burmeister of Clarence Beverly (Donnie) Dawson of Clarence, and Brenda (Denny) Snow of Tipton; brother, Dale Burmeister of Clarence; two sisters, Shirley (Harlan) Meyer of Stanwood and Kennethea Meier of Clarence; and 13 granchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; one grandson; two infant sisters and a daughter-in-law.

Lawrence J. Siebels
Stanwood. Lawrence J. Siebels, age 95, passed away on Wednesday May 22, 2013 at his home outside of Stanwood. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2013 at the Stanwood Lutheran Church at 10:30 A.M with Reverend Jordan McKinley officiating. Burial will follow in the Stanwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 28, 2013 at Chapman's in Clarence from 4-7 P.M.

Lawrence was born on May 8, 1918 to Menno Garret and Fannie (Schaefer) Siebels in Monticello, Iowa. He married Louise Lehrman on December 20, 1945. She died on December 11, 2007.

Lawrence served in the Army in World War II Pacific Theater and received a Purple Heart. He also was a member of the Stanwood Legion and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood.

He is survived by two sons, Dale of Stanwood and Dave (Sue) of Stanwood; daughter, Shirley Poucher of Denver, Colorado; sister, Irene Mardorf; grandchildren, Becky Lynn (Poucher) Gertson, Deborah Ann, Vickie Ann (Poucher), Bryan David (Leanne), Carrie Beth Hahn (Joel), Michael Grant(Miranda), Christine Marie, and Daniel Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Zachary Jody Lee Hahn, Elizabeth Ann Marie (Hahn), and Aliya Joan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Agusta; brother, Edward; sister-in-law, Alice Siebels; and brother-in-law, Richard Mardorf.

Kathryn A. Wallace
Marion. Kathryn A. Wallace, 88, of Marion and formerly of Clarence, died Tuesday May 21, 2013 at the Hiawatha Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 25, 2013 at the Clarence Methodist Church at 1:00 P.M with Pastor Barbara Krueger officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarence Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M until service time.

Kathryn was born on May 29, 1924 to Harry H. and Ruth (Berryhill) Crist in Cedar Rapids.

Kathryn was a Cedar County 4-H leader, a 10 year employee at Iowa Electric, and a 20 year volunteer at the St. Luke's Foundation.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane (Buzz) Olson of Surprise, Arizona and Jennifer (Peter) Meyer of Oyster Bay, New York; sister, Virginia (Russell) Buchanan of Algona, Iowa; grandchildren, Justin Ruch, Amanda Meyer, Griffin Meyer and Nicholas Meyer; and two great grandchildren, Brayden and Brielle Ruch.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Crist; and sister, Barbara Meyer.

Hildegard Anna Kroemer
Lowden. Hildegard Anna Kroemer, age 89 of Glendale, Arizona and formerly of Lowden, died Friday May 17, 2013 in her home. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday May 23, 2013 at 10:30 A.M at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with Reverend Victor Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday at 9:30 A.M until service time.

Hildegard was born on August 30, 1923 to Henry and Anna (Bunge) Kroemer in Lowden.

Hildegard was a member of the Christ Church Lutheran in Phoenix, Arizona. She worked as a bank teller.

She was survived by her nieces and nephews.

Hildegard was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Ruth Lorraine Rix
Olin. Ruth Lorraine Rix, age 90, passed away on Sunday May 19, 2013 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M on Friday May 24, 2013 at St. John's United Church of Christ with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 23, 2013 from 4-7 P.M at Chapman's in Clarence.

Ruth was born on December 17, 1922 to Harry and Alma (Slentz) Raymond in Cedar County. She attended and graduated from Oxford Jct. High School. She married Lester Rix on November 21, 1942 in Oxford Junction and they celebrated 70 years of marriage this past November.

They farmed in the Clarence area until 1954 when they moved to Olin. They continued to farming north of Olin until 1977 when they moved into town.

Ruth was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and was a Lend a Hand member and organizer. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and loved putting quilt pieces together for many quilts. She enjoyed playing bridge and cooking family dinners. Ruth and Lester enjoyed many years of traveling together.

She is survived by her husband, Lester; son, Gary (JaneAnn) Rix of Anamosa; two daughters, Reatha Scheibeler of Atlantic, Iowa and Donna (Darrell) Jordan of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Kristen Morrison of Omaha, NE, Laura (Will) Thomsen of Austin, TX, Dennis (Angela) Jordan of Marion , David(Kristie Berntsen)Jordan of Mt Vernon, Duane (Leigh Ann) Jordan of Mt. Vernon, Allen Rix, and Justin Rix of Olin;15 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law Arlene(Bricen)Krafock of Clarence.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law.

Gerold Eugene "Bud" Behne
Calamus. Gerold E. "Bud" Behne, age 80, passed away on Tuesday May 14, 2013 at his home in Calamus. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M on Saturday May 18, 2013 at the Christian Free Lutheran Church with Scott Gray officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Calamus. Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M on Friday May 17, 2013 at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland.

Bud was born on May 28, 1932 to Louie and Laura (Miller) Behne in Dodge County, Minnesota. He married Marian Thomas in Grand Mound on January 6, 1951. She died on March 15, 2012.

Bud enjoyed fishing, hunting, nature shows, and going out to eat. He was also a member of the Chrisian Free Lutheran Church in Wheatland, and retired in 1988 after spending 23 years as a welder for the Caterpillar Tractor company.

He is survived by two sons, Randy (Jennifer Rinas) of Tipton and Keith Behne of Clinton; two daughters, Cathy (Brian) Licht of Olin and Diana (Geno) Samuel of DeWitt; granddaughter, Tia Samuel; two step-grandsons; two step-great-granddaughters; sisters, Geri Schutt of Calamus and Marvel Hamann of Lost Nation; brothers, Lester (Marge) Behne of Wheatland, Lyle (Donna) Behne) of Milan, Illinois, and Larry (Janice) Behne of Lowden; sister-in-laws, Gertrude Behne of Baldwin and Josephine Behne of Oxford Junction; and special friend Betty Schau.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Orville and Leo Behne; sister, Gladys Morahn; two brother-in-laws, Ralph Hamann and Bob Schutt; and a step-grandson, Matthew Rinas.

Leota F. Becker
Tipton. Leota F. "Tootie" Becker, age 87, passed away on Wednesday May 1, 2013 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf House of Mercy in Hiawatha. There will be a private family service with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Clarence.

Leota was born on July 13, 1925 in Cedar County, Iowa to Everett and Frieda (Bock) Ford. She married Alvin Becker on November 30, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He died September 15, 2010.

Leota and her husband Alvin farmed from 1946 until 1989 in Rural Clarence. They moved to Tipton in 1990. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence and the Women's Fellowship.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Oldorf of Cedar Rapids and Marian McKee of Denver, Colorado; son, Steven (Rita) of Stanwood; sister, Evelyn Clark of Tipton; 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Leota was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; two sons, Harlan and David; four brothers; three sisters; and son-in-laws Dennis Oldorf and Michael McKee.

Helen Mae Hoffmeier
Lowden. Helen Mae Hoffmeier, age 92, passed away on Saturday April 20, 2013 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 24, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with Reverend Victor Young officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Lowden. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.

Helen was born on March 30, 1921 to George and Mayme (Grau) Kohnert in Scott County, Iowa. Helen married Gerhard Hoffmeier on June 8, 1947 in Grand Mound. He died on March 18, 2005.

Helen moved from Lowden to Manson, Iowa in 2002. She was a past member of the Lowden Amvets Auxiliary and the Trinity Ladies Aid. Helen enjoyed flowers, spending time with her family and played cards to the very end.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Letourneau of Mendota Heights, Mn. and Gloria (Doug) Casey of Manson, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer (T.J.) O'Brien; Lucas (Lindsay) Casey; Johanna (Andy) Altmayer; Zachary (Fiancee Charolette Heil) Letourneau and Anthony Letourneau; great granddaughters, Casey Mae O'Brien and Afton and Emery Casey; and a brother, Milton (Bud) Kohnert of Calamus.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Lloyd.
