Marla Rae Grose, age 82 of Maquoketa, passed away at the Clarence Nursing Home on October 25, 2020. A Celebration of Life for Marla will be held at a future date. Marla was born October 12, 1938 in Jones County, Iowa to Andrew and Pauline Stowers Browne. She is survived by her daughter Laura Bettag of Iowa City; grandchildren Brittany Bettag of Iowa City and Catherine Bettage of Waterloo; brothers Alden (Donna) Browne and Adrian (Bonnie) Browne both of Maquoketa; and cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mavis Minar. Marla began as a bookkeeper in Evansville, IN but returned to Iowa to open a bed and breakfast in Maquoketa that she called "Contentment". She then worked for several local businesses including Eads Body Shop, Mary B's, Hamilton's, and a local law firm. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, antiques, decorating, genealogy, and she cherished holiday entertaining. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
