Alvin W. Licht, age 94 of Clarence, passed away on Tuesday October 31, 2023 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday November 3, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with Rev. Daniel Redhage officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery with military honors.
Alvin was born May 26,1929 in Lowden to Richard and Claudine (Von Essen) Licht. He married Catharine Oltmanns on March 21,1965 in Anamosa. She passed away on July 11, 2015.
Survivors include his son Noel (Robin) of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law Deborah Licht of DeWitt; grandchildren Brianne, Ryan, Addison, Emily, Andrew, and Ashley; brother Lawrence Licht of Clarence; sisters Lucille Horman of Lowden and Eleanor Wenndt of Cedar Rapids.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son Mathew; sisters Lois Yutesler and Elaine Kroh; and brother Marvin Licht.
Alvin was raised on a farm 2 miles west of Lowden until moving to a farm 1 mile west of Lowden. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and Lowden public schools and after farmed with his father and eventually his son Mathew, retiring from the century farm. He spent 2 years in the military serving in the Korean Conflict (1951-1953).
Alvin was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving on various boards. He was also a member of the Lowden American Legion Post 366 serving 5 years as commander and a member of the Avenue of Flags. He later served 6 years on the Cedar County Extension Board and also was a director for Wheatland Mutual Insurance.
