Arla K. Schutt Garlough Brown, age 71 of Durant, passed away on Sunday January 6, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 10 at 10:00 A.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence with Reverend Eric Swenson officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Wheatland. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 9 from 4-6 P.M at Chapman's. Arla was born on December 24, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa to Arlo and Doris (Selhaver) Schutt. She married Jim Garlough in 1969 and they later divorced. He passed away in 2014. Arla then married Roy Brown in 1994. He also passed away. Arla was a loving person whose life revolved around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to play bingo, and in her earlier years enjoyed camping, fishing, and going to drag races. Arla is survived by her children, Shawn (Robin) Garlough of Clinton, Bill (Wendy) Garlough of Reynolds, IL, and Carrie (James) Chaplin of Durant; grandchildren, Nichole, Destiny, Tiffani, Catie, Sam, Andrew, and Chris; great grandchildren, Olivia, Dominic, and Henry; sister, Linda (Larry) Whittaker of Lakeland, FL; brother, Mark Schutt of Oxford Junction; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bud and LaVonne Miller of Milan, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be directed to the family.
