Audrey Jo Kahl, age 84 of Mechanicsville, died in her home unexpectedly on Friday September 12, 2025. Funeral services will be held at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence on Thursday, September 18th at 11:00 a.m. with Janet Shotwell officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Audrey was born November 21, 1940 in rural Monticello to Richard and Bernita (Leser) Lewis. She married Richard Kahl on May 30, 1959 in Clarence. He passed away February 19, 2007.

Audrey is survived by her daughter Brenda of Garrison; sons Jeff (Sheri) of Anamosa, Tom (Monique) of Spartanburg, SC, and Larry (Angie) of Ankeny; grandchildren Zach, Sarah, Whitney, Jonathan, Derik, Kellen, Lily, Avery, Ashley, and Joshua; 7 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters Shirley Van Amburg of Mechanicsville and Diane Thompson of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Audrey will be remembered as a strong and independent woman who lived life on her own terms despite the physical challenges she faced. She was happiest when she was in her kitchen, especially at Christmas time, baking cookies and making candy to share with family and friends. Audrey had a creative touch in many areas of life—whether it was crafting, cross-stitching, or other handmade projects, she poured her imagination and care into everything she created.

A lover of both old and new country music, Audrey also enjoyed settling in to watch classic black-and-white westerns. She found joy in simple pleasures like reading, working puzzles, and following her favorite teams—the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Dallas Cowboys.

In earlier years, Audrey enjoyed camping trips with her family, building memories that are cherished still today.
