Bernice L. Skinner, age 89, of Clarence, Iowa, died Saturday, July 18, 2009 in the Clarence Nursing Home. Bernice was born August 14, 1919, in Lowden, Iowa to Frank and Lillian (Twachtmann) Rushford. Bernice married Ward Skinner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, August 10, 1940. Bernice was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Lowden and a past charter member of Massillon Community Club. She enjoyed ceramics and flower gardening for many years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Monday, July 20, 2009, at the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence, Iowa, with Reverend Barbara Muhs officiating. Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:30am until service time. Bernice is survived by her son Gary (Helen) of Clarence; daughter Carmen (Steve) Nielsen of Camanche; brother Allen (Judy) Rushford of Waverly; 4 grandchildren Jeanett (Brad) Torrens of Hertford, North Carolina, Christine (Michael) Riter of Norwolk, Iowa, Brandon Dean and fiancee Samantha Longhere of Camanche, and Heather Dean of Camanche; and 3 great-grandchildren Jared, Rachel, and Ellie Riter. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Maxine Moore, and grandson Aaron Ritzmen.
