Bertha L. Sander, 93, of Lowden, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after an extended illness. Bertha was born on October 1, 1915, in Wilton, Iowa, to Louis and Helena (Leitz) Stolte. Bertha married Herbert Sander on April 1, 1934, in Lowden. Herbert died on February 21, 1994. Bertha worked side-by-side with her husband operating a dairy farm Southwest of Lowden, where they raised registered Holstein cattle. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid. Funeral services for Bertha will be held at 10:30am on Friday, December 5, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden, with Reverend Victor Young officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00pm Thursday, December 4, 2008. Bertha is survived by her daughter Joanne (Leonard) Kroemer of Clarence; sons Junior (Carol), Frederick, David (Donna), Stanley (Sandra) all of Lowden; 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws Irene Sander of Lowden and Lois Dierks of Clinton, Iowa. Bertha was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, son Gale, a step-daughter, 5 sisters and 4 brothers.
