Bessie M. Voelkers, age 87 of Wheatland, passed away on Monday April 28, 2014 at Wheatland Manor with her loving family by her side. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 2, 2014 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 10:30 A.M with Reverend John Cofield officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 1, 2014 from 4-7 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. Bessie was born on May 18, 1926 to Emil and Lois (Clark) Serk in Davenport, Iowa. She married Darrell "Chip" Voelkers on March 29, 1946 in Dixon, Iowa. Bessie was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and a former member of St. Paul's UCC Ladies Aid. She devoted her life to being a great wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma. Bessie is survived by her husband, Darrell "Chip" of Wheatland; daughter, Sue (Richard) Knutsen of DeWitt; son, Clark Voelkers of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Mike (Lou) Knutsen, Kerry (Bill) Garrow, Shelley (Tom) Breen, and Rebecca (Jason) Shields; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter and brother.
