Betty Denahy, age 83, of Grand Mound, Iowa, died February 8, 2010, at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home with her loving daughter Connie and her family at her side. Betty was born February 2, 1927, in Wheatland, Iowa to Raymond and Clara (Larsen) Smith. Betty married Marion Denahy July 21, 1951, at Lost Nation. He died July 30, 1979. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland, Iowa, with Reverend John Cofield officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to Connie Bowers at 405 Main Street Calamus, Iowa. Betty and her husband Marion had farmed, and they operated Wapsie Oaks Country Club in 1974 and 1975. Betty will be remembered for always feeding her finches and cardinals; she was also known for her excellent home cooking. Some of her favorite things were shopping, going out to eat, flowers and gardening. She was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Iowa Basketball. Betty was a member of the Women's Auxilliary in Calamus and ladies card club. She is survived by her daughter-Connie Bowers of Calamus; granddaughters Michele Bowers of Dewitt, Carrie (Ronnie) Wells of Calamus, Brooke Bowers of Dewitt; great-grandchildren Lane, Lauren, Morgan, and Mason. She also is survived by another daughter Pamela Schau and family. Betty was preceded in death by parents, husband, sister LaVonne Rohling, and a great-grandchild.
