Betty Jane Carolyn Mayerhofer, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday September 26, 2017 at the Wheatland Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland on Saturday September 30 at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Don Combs officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time at the funeral home with burial in the Dixon cemetery following the service.
Betty Jane was born February 21, 1925 in Clinton County the daughter of Julius and Bertha (Lassch) Meyer. She married Darriel Mayerhofer on January 22, 1944 at the Buena Vista Church. She and Darriel farmed around the Big Rock area until moving to Wheatland and later Dixon. In her early years, she helped her dad pick corn by hand to earn money for her wedding dress.
Betty Jane played cards for many years in the neighborhood card club and was a dedicated mother to her son Billy who had muscular dystrophy and required care 24-7.
Betty Jane is survived by her daughter, Rita Mayerhofer of Lowden; granddaughter Rhonda (Brant) Hubler; great grandson Jessy Hubler; granddaughter Robyn Nims; great grandchildren Nytasha (Jason), Keynan and Jaylin; daughter Jeanine Steines of Clarence; granddaughter Tiffany (Bill) Steines; great grandson Xander; brothers Herb Meyer of Dixon, Delmar "snowball" (Carol) Meyer of Blue Grass, LuVerne (Shirley) Meyer of Tipton; and sister-in-law Vivian Meyer of Big Rock.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Billy; brothers Arnie, Ronald (Bill), Merlin (Tuffy), and Milton Meyer; sisters Ethel Moeller and June Sievers.
