Bonnie Lee Hunwardsen, age 81 of Clarence, passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Monday April 25, 2022. A memorial service will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence on Friday May 6, 2022 at 10:30 AM with Reverend Matt Schneider-Adams officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 5 from 4-7 PM at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Bonnie was born March 7, 1941 in Anamosa, Iowa to Robert and Leona Bonar Benhart. She was married to Rodney Walters in 1959. They later divorced. Bonnie married Don Hunwardsen in 1984 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence.
She is survived by her husband Don; children Carla (Barry) McHenry of Clarence, Connie (Dwight) Gottschalk of Lowden, Carmen Hunwardsen of Brisban QLD Australia, Debra Lee (Tom) Vaccaro of Virginia, and Jeffrey (Donna) Walters of Lisbon; grandchildren Cheyanne Hansen, Amy Yaukovitz, Kyle Walters, Kris Walters, Kevin (Melissa) Walters, Katelynn Walters, Anthony Vaccaro, Andrew (Rachel) Vaccaro, Carissa (Ruben) Mendez, Joseph Proesch, and Hunter Proesch; 2 step grandchildren Ashley Buttry and Hannah Philgreen; 12 great grandchildren; and sister Barbara Nelson of Arlington Heights, IL.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Phillip Nelson.
Bonnie enjoyed many things like fishing, deer hunting, writing poems, collecting porcelain dolls, bird watching, and quilting & sewing. She also enjoyed riding in their antique cars and attending car shows with Don. Bonnie was a good cook, but an even better wife, mother, and grandmother.
