Carlene Bixler, 67, of Clarence, Iowa, died after a short illness on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Carlene was born on November 5, 1940, in Scott County, Iowa, to Carl and Lurene (Fox) Kelding. Carlene and Merlyn Bixler were married on August 27, 1960. Merlyn died on February 17, 2006. Carlene worked as a beautician and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and especially her family. Funeral services for Carlene will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ at 10:30 am on Friday, October 10, 2008, with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at Clarence Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at St. John's Church. Carlene is survived by her sons Michael (Debra) of Clarence and Mourey (Marge) of Aurora, Ilinois; daughter Michele (Murray) Shedeck of Oxford Junction; brother Wallace (Jean) Kelding of Walcott; and 8 grandchildren. Carlene was proceeded in death by her parents and husband.
