Darlene S. Dayton, age 63, of Clarence, Iowa, died on May 6, 2012 at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Darlene was born June 25, 1948, in Fort Dodge, IA to Russell Hanson and Eleanor (Smith) Hanson. Darlene married John Dayton on August 29, 1970 in Dayton, IA. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at St. John's United Church Of Christ in Clarence, with Rev. David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Dayton, IA. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, May 11, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence. Darlene was a member of P.E.O. and the church. She loved to travel, spend time with friends and family and gardening. Darlene volunteered at North Cedar School District and also enjoyed playing practical jokes on all of her neighbors. She is survived by husband John; daughter Abby (Aaron) Fritz of West Des Moines, IA; 2 sisters: Ann Johnson of Manson, IA, Bonnie Hanson-Buckley (Jim) of Port Townsend, WA; brother-in-law Richard (Paula) Dayton of Iowa City, IA; nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents.
