Darrell "Chip" Voelkers, age 88 of Wheatland, passed away on Friday May 29, 2015 at Wheatland Manor. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 1, 2015 at 10:30 A.M at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland with Reverend John Cofield officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M until service time.
Chip was born on April 13, 1927 to Orval and Ella (Benttrot) Voelkers in Toronto, Iowa. He married Bessie Serk on March 29, 1946 in Dixon, Iowa. She died on April 28, 2014.
Chip was a St. Paul's UCC member, former Wheatland Fire Chief, and was a WWII Army Veteran. He worked for P.W. Stankee for over 40 years. Chip liked to garden, fish, and golf, and loved all of his grandkids.
He is survived by his son, Clark Voelkers of Bettendorf; daughter, Sue (Richard) Knutsen of DeWitt; grandchildren, Michael ( Lou) Knutsen, Kerry (Bill) Garrow, Shelley (Tom) Breen, and Rebecca (Jason) Shields; 8 great grandchildren; and brother, Ellsworth (Dorothy) Voelkers of Cedar Rapids.
Chip was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter; brother, Carrol; and sisters, Ethel & Luella.
