Obituary

David E. Covington, 48, of Bennett, Iowa died Thursday, July 26, 2007 near Wheatland as the result of an auto accident. David was born on January 22, 1959 in Manchester, Iowa to Eugene and Alice (Bruce) Covington. On February 29, 2000, David married Diane Deerberg. Funeral services for David Covington will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007, at 10:00 A.M. at the St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, Iowa. Reverend David Mears will be officiating. Burial will be held at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City, Iowa with graveside military rites by the Bennett American Legion. Visitation will be 2:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday, July 29, 2007, at the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence, Iowa. David graduated from Anamosa High School in 1977 and joined the United States Navy in 1981. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Independence from 1981-1984. He was self-employed as a drywall contractor and enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren. He will be missed by all. David is survived by his wife Diane; three stepchildren and their families: Rodney (Jill) Deerberg, sons Bryce and Brody of Bennett, Christy (Tony) Regennitter of Lowden, Doug (Tiffney) Deerberg and children James Ray, and JoEllen of Wheatland; parents Eugene and Alice Covington of Clarence; three brothers Doug (Angie) Covington of Merrifield, Minnesota, Brad (Carmen) Covington of Fairfax Iowa, John Covington of McCausland, Iowa, three sisters: Sandy (Doug) Kray of Tiffin, Iowa, Sharon (Dann) Kerns of Davenport, Iowa, Brenda (Dan) Schropp of Williamsburg, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; grandmothers Lena Bruce and Edith Covington; and his dogs Chase and Precious. David was proceeded in death by grandfathers Floyd Covington and John Bruce, an infant nephew Grant Covington, his uncles Tony Murphy and Greg Covington, and one aunt Lorraine Covington.
