David Carl Schutt, age 90 of Wheatland, passed away on Monday December 11, 2023 at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport. A visitation will be held at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence on Thursday, December 14 from 4-6 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 15 at Chapman's at 11:00 a.m. with Father Bob Cloos officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland.
David was born December 3, 1933 at home southeast of Oxford Junction, Iowa to Robert and Anna (Brauer) Schutt. He married Barbara Reese on November 14, 1970 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Barbara and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters in law Lowell and Mary Richey of Lost Nation, and Arlo and Doris Schutt and John Robert and Geraldine Schutt of Calamus.
David went to country and Wheatland schools and honorably served in the United States Army from December 7, 1955 until September 6, 1957 at Fort Myer, Virginia in the Old Guard Third Infantry. He was employed at J.I. Case in Bettendorf and farmed until his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed helping Steve Riedesel with the spring and fall farm work.
David was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Clinton, the Quad City Plus 60 Club, and was on the Pine Hill Cemetery board. He enjoyed playing cards, especially the sheepshead game on Saturday mornings at the Dixon American Legion. David and Barbara were members of the Pitch Club, playing Pitch once a month. The Pitch Club had been going for over 50 years.
