Delmar W. Giebelstein, 85, of Davenport, and formerly of Clarence, passed away on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, from lung complications. Delmar farmed in the Bennett, Lowden, and Clarence areas from the time he was 12 until his retirement at 75, with the exception of his service in the Army in World War II. In addition to his love of farming, Delmar served his community as a member and president of the United Church of Christ Church Council and member of both the Clarence Cemetery Board and Inland Cemetery Board. Delmar was born June 1, 1924, in Bennett, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Giebelstein, his mother Hilda Regennitter Giebelstein, and his brothers Charles and Walter. He is survived by his wife and soul mate for 56 years, Vivian Giebelstein and his children, Joseph Giebelstein of Magnolia, Texas, and daughter Pati (Tom) Hoffmann of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Delmar is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Alice Grage of Bennett, Melvin (Shirley) Giebelstein of Bennett, Virgil (Joyce) Giebelstein of Davenport, and Darlene Ballenger of Bennett. He has been blessed with five grandchildren, Sean (Dawn) Giebelstein of Cedar Rapids, Chad Giebelstein of Cedar Rapids, Sheree (Joe) Giebelstein Bryant of Clarence, James (JT) Hoffmann of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Marie Hoffmann of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by six great grandchildren: Damon, Gabrielle, Coral, Sullivan, Vayla, and Autumn. Services will be held at St. John�s United Church of Christ Clarence on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with visitation from 9:30 A.M. till service time at the church. He will then take a final trip around the family farm on his way to his perpetual resting place in Inland Cemetery, Bennett, where military services will be conducted.
