Dewey D. Dircks, age 86 of Clarence, passed away on Monday January 20, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 24 at 2:00 P.M at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Reverend David Mears and Reverend David Doyle officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery with military rites by Clarence American Legion Post #286. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Friday.
Dewey was born on March 17, 1927 to Richard and Della (Hartwig) Dircks in rural Clarence. He married Dorothy McClelland on February 11, 1967 in Ely.
Dewey was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War and member of the American Legion Post #286 in Clarence. He was also a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence. He was a farmer on his own century farm south of Clarence. Dewey loved his cats and granddog Ryder, and was proud of both of his grandsons.
He was survived by his wife, Dorothy of 46 years; son, Randy (Cindy) of Cedar Rapids, daughter, Jolene (Josh) Grau of Lisbon, grandchildren, Dallas Dircks and Dircks Grau; and brother, John (Joyce) Dircks of Clarence.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Verna Lee Rix and Patricia Severin.
