Donald L. Meier, age 83 of Lowden, passed away on Saturday April 9, 2016 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 13, 2016 at 10:30 A.M at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with Reverend Daniel Redhage officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 12, 2016 from 4-7 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Don was born on August 29, 1932 to Louis A. and Mathilda (Ernsting) Meier in Lowden. He married Donna Schluter on August 5, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden.
Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and held various office positions and committees. He was also a member of the Iowa Auto Dealers Association, National Auto Dealers Association, and the Lowden Historical Society. Don was employed at Kemmann Chevrolet for 65 years, was the Lowden Commercial Club treasurer, LEDCO treasurer, on the board of directors for the Lowden Medical Corporation, Lowden Retirement Corporation board of directors and was the Lowden Development Corporation secretary for 38 years. He played baseball with the Lowden Indees for 20 years, was a founding member of the 3/30 club in Lowden, an Army Veteran and a member of the Lowden Amvets.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; brother, Norman of Florida; sisters-in-law, Kennethea Meier of Clarence and Madelyn Meier of Wheatland; brother-in-law, Fran Bush of Pueblo,CO.; nieces, Rebecca Bush, Cindy Burken, Crystal Meier, Kris Mader, and Kelly Keithley; and nephews Steve Meier, David Bush, Jon Bush and Jeff Meier.
