Dorothy M. Horner, age 90, passed away on Friday May 12, 2017 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 16 at 2:00 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland with Pastor Tessa Cavey officiating. Burial will follow at the Massillon Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born on July 15, 1926 to August and Lois (Gehrls) Nyberg in Geneseo, Illinois. She married Lowell Horner, Jr. in Chicago, IL on January 7, 1946. He died September 27, 1985.
Dorothy worked at the Rock Island Arsenal during World War II as a machinist and was a proprietor of Horner's Rendezvous in Toronto for years. She liked to fish, do crossword puzzles, and was an animal lover.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Daniel (Dawn) of New Castle, CO, Dean (Wendy) of Amana, and Douglas (Marilyn) of Bellevue; daughter, Dawn (Kevin) Edler of Toronto; grandchildren, Tracy Griffin, Jason Horner, Daniel Sanders, Tina Sanders Whitfield, Travis Horner, Michael Horner, James Burton, Luisa Burton, Angela Burton, Kylena Horner, Kevin Edler, Jr., Ethan Horner, Nathan Horner, Candice Nelson, Christina Horner, Dale Horner, Denise Horner, and Jentz Howlett; 38 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David; 2 brothers, Walter and Gerald; 2 sisters, Lillian Town and Yarda McGregor; and great granddaughter, Dacota Rane Nanke.
