Born and raised in Lost Nation, Iowa, she was welcomed into the family of Otto and Mary Reyelts Pingel, brother Arthur and sister Esther, on August 24, 1915. They lived on a farm southeast of Lost Nation, Iowa. She walked over a mile to a one-room country school and graduated from Lost Nation High School. On February 12, 1935, Dorothy married George W.
