Earl Wells (07/02/1919 - 09/21/2009)
Earl Wells, age 90, of Stanwood, Iowa, died Monday, September 21, 2009, at his home. Earl was born July 2, 1919, in Tipton to Iman and Mae Wells. Earl Married Darlene Hubler in 1952, and she died in 1956. He married Norma O'Bryan Day of Davenport in 1966.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, September 24, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton, Iowa, with Reverend David Hitch officiating. Burial will follow at Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. A memorial has been established.
Earl attended area schools and worked with his father as a carpenter until he was called to service in the Armed Forces in 1941. He served in the combat engineers. He was on active duty in the Normandy, France, Rhineland, and central Europe operations. He was in four major campaigns and was awarded four Bronze Stars and three overseas bars. Earl was owner and operator of Stanwood Auto Sales for over 50 years. Earl was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Norma, son William of North Liberty, step-son Dennis Day, sister Maxine Long of Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Earl has nieces and nephews in Indiana, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, Iowa, and Washington.
Earl was preceded in death by parents, brothers Jess and Alec and sisters Jean, Pauline, and Gladys.
