Edgar C. Hintz, Jr., age 88 of Lowden, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids on Sunday July 10, 2022. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden on Saturday July 16, 2022 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Daniel Redhage officiating. Burial will follow with Military honors at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until service time.
Edgar was born June 20, 1934 in Lowden, Iowa to Edgar Sr. and Mildred (Spencer) Hintz. He was one of nine brothers and sisters. He was baptized into the Christian faith on July 29, 1934 and confirmed at Trinity on March 21, 1948, where he was a lifelong member. He served and worked as a trustee and janitor for several years, using his skills to fix things along the way. He served in the Army for 2 years from 1953-1955. He married Annie Oltmanns on July 1, 1956 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello and were blessed to have 66 years together.
Edgar attended Trinity Lutheran School for 8 years and graduated from Lowden High School in 1953. He was a carpenter by trade and worked in the local area for 50 years. He also owned and operated with his wife the E & A Corner Café in Lowden. Edgar was a member of Lillis-Deerberg American Legion Post 366 of Lowden, serving in the honor guard for several years. He served the community for more than 20 years on the Lowden Fire Department.
Edgar and Annie enjoyed many years of dancing, and they treasured the trip overseas to Germany to visit their daughter and relatives. He also enjoyed family gatherings with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Annie and five children; Deborah (Chris) Clough of Marshalltown, Janise (Joe) Wenndt of Lowden, Melanie (Brett) Miller of Lowden, Robin (George) Housley of Lowden, and David (Jayne) Hintz of Lowden; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Elizabeth Cobb of Silvis, IL, Darlene Jellings of West Union, Doris (Arnold) Lehrman of Stanwood, and Margaret (Robert) Ford of Tipton; and brother Robert of Eldridge.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Barbara and Luella; brother Raymond; brother in-laws Norman Potter, Grant Cobb, Duane Jellings; and sister in-laws Beverly Hintz and Lovice Hintz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
