Edna Schanze Riedesel died Saturday, July 25, 2009, in Rio Rancho, NM. Edna was born north of Grand Mound near Bliedorn, Iowa, on September 10, 1920, a daughter of Fred and Frances Gilmore Schanze. She married Roger Riedesel on October 19, 1946, and they operated the family farm one mile south of Wheatland until retiring in 1985.
Edna worked in Alfred Rowold�s Office for many years during tax season, and also served a lengthy term as Secretary/Treasurer of the Wheatland High School Alumni Banquet. She was a 64 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered her time to help edit and publish the Wheatland Wire before moving out of state to be closer to her children in 2005.
Edna is survived by her daughter Kristi Boom and husband Ross Boom of Placitas, N.M., and daughter-in-law Linda Riedesel, of Austin, Texas. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Matthew, Nicole, Clayton, Alison, and Danielle Riedesel, and Claire Boom; one sister, Irene McDevitt and husband, Cleo, and sisters-in-law Shirley Schanze and Elaine Hack. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger, her son Ronald, one sister, Mildred Hythecker, and three brothers, Freddie, Gilmore, and Robert Schanze.
A Memorial Service is planned Saturday August 8, 2009 at St. Paul�s United Church of Christ in Wheatland. A Visitation for friends and family will be held from 9-11AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11AM and interment at St Paul�s Cemetery. The family requests Memorials be made to St Paul�s United Church of Christ in lieu of flowers.
