Obituary

Elmer I. Horman, age 94, died Tuesday January 8, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt. Funeral services will be held Friday January 11, 2013 at 10:30 A.M at Peace United Church of Christ in Bennett with Pastor Tom Emerick officiating. Burial will be at Inland Cemetery in rural Bennett, with military honors by Lillis-Deerberg Legion Post 366, Lowden. Visitation will be Thursday January 10, 2013 from 4-6 P.M at Chapman's in Wheatland.\n \n Elmer was born August 11, 1918 in rural Bennett, Iowa to August and Ella (Beuthien) Horman. He married Mabel Schmidt February 23, 1949 in Lowden. She died November 10, 2012.\n \n Elmer served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII Veteran. He and his wife farmed in the Wheatland area and later moved to Lowden after retirement. In addition to his church, he was active with the Lowden Legion, Lowden Senior Citizens and Lowden Retirement Housing Corporation. He enjoyed playing cards and visits from his family. Elmer also took part in the Honor Flight out of the Quad Cities.\n \n Survivors include a son, Randall (Sandra) of Wheatland; daughter, Pat Schulz of Calamus; grandsons, Eric (Patty) Schulz, Aaron (Megan) Horman, Josh (Jenny) Horman and Brandon (Jessie) Horman; great-grandchildren, Nicole Schulz, Jena Schulz, Gavin Schulz, Carter Horman, Cadence Horman and Jamian Horman; brothers, Harold (Mary Louise) Horman and Raldo Horman; sisters, Marvella Fehling, Alice (Gerald) Rowold, Irene Rowold, and Erna Rowold.\n \n He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mabel; brothers, Clarence and Earl; and son-in-law, Frank.\n
