Elmer L. Petersen, 72, Grand Mound, died July 4, 2012, at West Wing Nursing Home, DeWitt, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapman Funeral Home, Wheatland, Iowa. Diane Prichard will officiate. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Chapman Funeral Home, Wheatland. He was born August 16, 1939, in New Liberty, Iowa, to Leonard Petersen and Marianne Siem Petersen. He married Viola Smith on March 2, 1968, in Davenport. She died in 1984. Survivors include daughter, Mary Petersen, of Peoria; son, Pat, of Plymouth, Illinois; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Delores (Clarence) Reiles of Evergreen Park, IL, and Phyllis Womble of Des Moines, IA; 2 brothers, Rudy (Mary)of Blue Grass, IA, and Jack (Joyce) of Oxford Junction, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one daughter.
