Esther L. Woode, 93, of Clarence, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab after an extended illness. Esther was born on August 5, 1915, in Clarence, to Henry and Frieda (Boettcher) Goldsmith. Esther married Forrest Woode on January 30, 1935, in Davenport, Iowa; he died on January 28, 1992. Esther's favorite things to do were cooking and baking, especially for her loving family. Funeral services for Esther L. Woode will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 27, 2009, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will be in Red Oak Cemetery in rural Tipton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the funeral home. Esther is survived by her son Robert (Marilyn) of Davenport; daughters Bonnie (Virgil) Hamdorf of Massillon, Iowa and Sandra Willert of Tipton; grandchildren Wendy (Bill) Holland, Nancy Woode, Sarah Woode, Diane Garien, Denise (Barry) Roberts, Al (Vicki) Hamdorf, Donna (Mike) Gritton, Jon (Teri) Willert, Kristi (Steve Stafford) Willert, Jim (Onda) Willert; and 13 great-grandchildren. Esther was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Edward.
