Evelyn L. Fisher, age 87, of Clarence, Iowa, died in her home on February 24, 2010. Evelyn was born July 24, 1922, in Clarence to Arnold Meier and Katie (Schwitzer) Meier. Evelyn married Frank Fisher on December 21, 1941, at Clarence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at St. John's United Church Of Christ in Clarence, Iowa, with Pastor Jim Goodrich officiating. Burial will follow at Clarence Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, March 1, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Evelyn was a 1939 graduate of Clarence High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College, she then taught for 2 years at Hawthorne #2 country school, rural Clarence. She was a member of First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren in Cedar Rapids and for many years belonged to the Cedar Church of the Brethren where she was active in teaching Sunday School and playing the piano. Evelyn had several hobbies including craft work and quilting. Her delight was collecting salt & pepper shakers, and she always enjoyed remembering people on special days.
She is survived by her husband Frank; son Dennis Fisher of Cedar Rapids; 3 grandchildren Anthony Fisher of Ames, Gregory (Darath) Fisher of Pella, Jeffrey (Wendy) Fisher of Deerfield, Illinois; 3 great grandchildren Trey, Malik, and Chase; and sister Bernita Walker of Tipton.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Sandra, and sister Marcella Soper.
