Fern I. Schluter, age 96 of Lowden, passed away on Friday April 15, 2016 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at the Zion United Church of Christ on Tuesday April 19, 2016 at 10:30 A.M with Reverend Stephen Stepp officiating. Burial will follow at the Lowden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until service time at the church.
Fern was born on October 13, 1919 to Henry and Mathilda (Niermeyer) Toerber in Massillon, Iowa. She married Raymond Walter Schluter on November 22, 1939. He died in 1978.
Fern was a hard working farm woman, and was known for her homemade coffee cake. Her garden and roses will miss her.
Fern is survived by her son, Richard (Butch) and wife, Sig of Lowden; daughters, Sharon (Robert) Johnson of Tipton, Teri (Mark) Hormann of Clarence, and Sandra (Allen) Koch of Lowden; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sheila; daughter-in-law, Peggy Schluter; brother, Harold Toerber; sister, Eleanor Soenksen; and a great grandson.
