Fred C. Kahl, 77, of Lowden, Iowa died on Monday, December 4, 2006, at home. Fred Kahl was born on April 17, 1929, in Lowden, Iowa to William J. and Louise (Schmidt) Kahl. Fred was baptized on June 2, 1929 and confirmed on April 18, 1943. Fred married Delores Wenndt on September 24, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden, Iowa; to this union, they were blessed with three children Steven, Kevin and Sandra.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 6, 2007, at the Zion United Church of Christ with Reverend Barbara Muhs officiating. Burial will be at the Van Horn Cemetery in Lowden. Visition is from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Chapman Funeral Home-Clarence.
Fred and his wife Delores farmed side by side on the family farm southwest of Lowden, then farmed near Clarence until they moved to Lowden in 1993. He loved to work the land, feed cattle and hogs and spent much of his time at livestock auctions where he especially enjoyed visiting with his sale barn buddies. He was most proud of his six grandsons and one great-grandson. He always had several jokes with them. He played many games of cards during his retirement and enjoyed visiting with his many friends. He was a member of the Pork Producers, Beef Producers and Corn and soybean Association, all of Cedar County. He also served on the Lowden School Board, Production Credit Board (PCA) and Zion United Church of Christ Church Council.
Fred Kahl is loved and survived by his wife of 56 years, Delores; son Steven Kahl of Cedar Rapids, son Kevin and wife Beth of Lowden; daughter Sandra Horman and husband, Randy of Wheatland; grandchildren Kerry Kahl and wife Melissa, Tim Kahl, Andy Kahl, Aaron Horman and wife Megan, Joshua Horman and Brandon Horman; and great-grandson, Carter Horman. Also surviving are three sisters, Ina Hack, Helen Knoche and Bethl Hagen and husband Bruce. Fred was proceeded in death by his parents and three infant grandchildren.
