Frederick Zeigler, age 89, passed away Monday January 21, 2013 at the Crest Health Center in Davenport. In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation or services. Burial will take place at the Massillon Cemetery. Frederick was born in Twin Brooks, South Dakota to Henry and Elizabeth (Dienst) Zeigler on March 12, 1923. His family moved to Wheatland, Iowa in 1932 and after his graduation from Wheatland High School he worked for his uncles, Adolph and Fred Dienst, on their farm southwest of Toronto. Upon their deaths, he continued farming the land and raising cattle. He recieved a "Century Farm" designation in 1979. Frederick loved being a farmer and puttering in his well-equipped workshop. He enjoyed country music, polka fests, working on jigsaw puzzles and trips "home" to South Dakota. Survivors include a nephew, Jerry (Patty) Barenthin of Davenport; a niece, Nancy (Ron) Flolid of Shoreview, Minnesota; two grandnephews; and a grandniece. Frederick was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and his buddy, "Pooch". The family could never say thank you enough to the wonderful, caring staff at Ridgecrest Care Center for making Frederick's last years such pleasant and comfortable ones, Dr. Steven Aguilar for his care over the years, and the assistance of Genesis Hospice. It has been very appreciated.
