Gene H. Peekenschneider, age 68, of Olathe KS., formerly of Dixon, Iowa passed away January 24, 2016 at Evergreen Nursing Home in Olathe, KS. Funeral services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Dixon, IA. at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday January 30, 2016 with Shelly Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. at Chapman's in Wheatland. Burial will be in the Dixon Cemetery.
Gene was born December 16, 1947 to Earl and June (Meyer) Peekenschneider in Davenport, Iowa. He married Joy Honn in 1972.
As a young boy, he delivered papers for the Quad City Times and worked at Caterpillar once he graduated from high school. He then went on to take over the family business, Peekenschneider Oil Co. Inc. that he ran for 25 years. Gene played on numerous baseball and slow pitch softball teams throughout his life. He coached Dixon girls softball for many years and was a charter member of the 3/30 Golf and Country Club in Lowden. He had previously served as Dixon councilman and Mayor. Gene enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and his monthly card parties years ago. After his move to Kansas he got to enjoy quality time with his family and loved to show off his grandchildren.
Gene is survived by 2 daughters Nicole (Justin) Schulte and Lindsey (Kellen) Levien, sister Eileen Flynn, and grandchildren Payton, Easton and Emma Schulte and McKinley Levien. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceeded in death by his parents Earl Peekenschneider and June Sievers and brothers Ronald and Kevin.
