Obituary

George C. Rekemeyer, age 92, of DeWitt died Monday December 17, 2012 at West Wing Place in Dewitt. Funeral services will be held Friday December 21, 2012 at 2 P.M at Chapman's Funeral Home in Clarence, Iowa with Dana Loter officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Inland Cemetery in Bennett.\nGeorge was born on June 4, 1920 near Bennett, Iowa to George Sr. and Francis (Beuthien) Rekemeyer. On August 21, 1948 he married Alice May Esbaum in Davenport, Iowa. She died in March of 2009. George and Alice farmed in the Bennett area until 1968 when they and their sons moved to DeWitt. Mr. Rekemeyer started a window cleaning service in the DeWitt area, and operated it for over two decades. He enjoyed his work and continued with it until his death. In his earlier years, he and his family enjoyed traveling to many areas in the U.S., Canada and Europe. He was a member of Living Faith Church, Bettendorf and a Farm Bureau Member.\n Survivors include two sons; Ralph (Anita) and Russell of DeWitt; a granddaughter; Alison Rekemeyer, also of DeWitt; two nieces; Sonja (Mrs. Lynn Davie) of Burlington, Ontario and Dr. Leisha Harrell Espy of Rossville, Georgia; and a sister-in-law; Donna Harrell, of Rossville, Georgia.\n George is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters Bernice Rekemeyer and Alma(Mrs. Walter) Conrad.
