Harlan Lee Meyer, age 99 of Clarence, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday October 20, 2024 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence on Thursday October 24 at 11:00 AM with Janet Shotwell officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery with military honors.

Harlan was born January 6, 1925 in Lowden, Iowa to Dietrich Johann and Meta (Schluter) Meyer. He married Shirley Burmeister on November 5, 1960 in Lowden.

Survivors include his wife Shirley; sons Mike (Julie) of Cedar Rapids and Brian (Sandra) of Prairieburg; daughters Linda Meyer and Lori Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Pam (Mark) Spickermann of Shellsburg, and Sherry (Tony) Sander of Clarence; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren with one on the way; sister Betty Ann Miller of Tipton; and sister-in-laws Kennethea Meier and Fannie Burmeister of Clarence.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jeannette Brendes; and brothers Richard and Dwain.

Harlan honorably served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Clarence American Legion. He was a lifelong farmer that would take time out of his busy day to play baseball with the kids. He enjoyed building fence, playing cards at the legion, or fishing. Harlan was a selfless guy whose family was important to him, loved his grandkids, and also loved picking on his wife!

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Clarence Nursing Home or Senior Dining in Tipton.
