Obituary

Harvey “Pinto” Harlan Hein, 91, of Lowden, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026 at the Wheatland Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 27 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Daniel Redhage officiating at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time at the church. Burial will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Harvey was born May 6, 1935 in Lowden, Iowa to John and Eleanor (Bunge) Hein. On June 19, 1966, Harvey married the love of his life, Sharon Peterman. Together they built a life centered around family, community, and hard work. Sharon preceded him in death on February 3,2000, but Harvey continued to live independently for the next 26 years while remaining a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather & uncle.

Known affectionately as “Pinto,” Harvey carried that nickname throughout his life, becoming a familiar and beloved figure throughout the Lowden community. After many dedicated years working for and retiring from Oscar Mayer, Harvey and Sharon opened Pinto’s Pizza, a local business that proudly carried on his well-known nickname and legacy.

Harvey was a proud member of the Army. Following his military service, he enjoyed a lifetime of sports and community involvement. He loved bowling, baseball, and especially golf. As a member of the 3/30 Lowden Country Club, Harvey was an avid golfer who cherished time spent on the course with friends and family.

Those who knew Harvey will remember his gift for storytelling, his sense of humor, and his love of family. He loved sharing memories from years gone by and telling memorable jokes that often left those around him smiling. Harvey never passed up the opportunity for a good back scratch and never met a cookie he didn’t like. No matter where he went, he had a way of winning people over with his kind heart, warm smile, and gentle spirit. He was loved dearly by everyone who knew him and was often described as sweet, adorable, and genuinely one of a kind. Whether visiting with friends or spending time with family, Harvey left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

Harvey is survived by his daughters, Holly Hackett of Marion and Sheila (Rick) Yutesler of Davenport; his grandchildren, Kyle (Nicole) Hackett, Courtney (Nick) Wyllie, Skylar (Brandon) Yutesler, and Joel (Michelle) Yutesler; and his great-grandchildren, Haley Yutesler and Zach Yutesler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eleanor Hein; his beloved wife, Sharon Hein; his sisters, Leora Mothershed and Eunice Morden; and his brother, Gerald Hein.

Harvey’s family would like to thank all who shared in his life and friendship. His legacy of kindness, devotion to family, community involvement, and countless stories will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
