Obituary

Helen B. Lund, 100, died Sunday, May 22, 2006, at Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab. Helen was born on May 21, 1906, in Brainard, Nebraska, to Frank and Anna (Cejka) Smolik. Helen was married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa to Harvey Lund on March 2, 1927. Funeral services for Helen B. Lund will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at 2:00 PM at the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence, Iowa. Burial will be at the Red Oak Cemetery outside of Tipton. Pastor Lynn Butterbrodt will be officiating. Visitation will be held at the Chapman Funeral Home, Wednesday from 12:30 to 2:00 PM before the service. Helen was a homemaker and farm wife all of her life until retiring in 1973. She and her husband farmed in the Osage and Martelle areas and bought a farm near Stanwood in 1944. They retired to Bellevue in 1973 and lived there until 1999. She then moved to Stanwood to keep an eye on her daughter. Helen lived with Alecia until January of 2005, then moving to the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab Center. She liked Gardening, sewing, cooking, canning and taking care of wildlife. She was a gentle and kind person. Helen B. Lund is survived by her daughter Alecia Meyers of Stanwood, granddaughters Kim Pearson and fiancee Doug Wyman of Marion, and Kristin (Brian) Barkes of Cedar Rapids, her foster son Ed Ross, two great-grandsons Michael and Ben Pearson, her brother and sister, Duane Smolik of San Jose, California and Lydia Deal of Boone, Iowa, and several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harvey of almost 59 years in 1986, her son-in-law Roland Meyers, four brothers and two sisters.\n \nThe pallbearers are Kim Pearson, Kristin Pearson, Michael Pearson, Ben Pearson, with Ed Ross as an Honorary Pallbearer.
