Helen A. Irons, age 91, of Clarence, Iowa, died November 14, 2007, at the Clarence Nursing Home after a short illness. Helen was born June 23, 1916, in Charles City, Iowa to Charles and Amelia (Nickolas) Melcher. Helen married James Irons June 9, 1954 in Charles City. He died in 2000. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 16, 2007, at Clarence United Methodist Church, Iowa, with Karmen Jamison officiating. Burial will follow at Clarence Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, November 15, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Helen taught Home Economics in several school districts, including Central City, Olin, and Lowden. She was active in the United Methodist Church as well as several local ladies clubs.\n \nHelen is survived by her daughter Janell (Allen) Gienger of Gladbrook; sons Dr. Calvin (Rosemary) of Brisbane, Australia, Craig (Kathy) of Clarence, and Jerry (Vickie) of Clarence; and 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by parents, husband and 8 brothers and sisters.
