Hilda Dickel, age 97, of Wheatland, Iowa, died in her home Sunday, July 5, 2009. Hilda was born July 30, 1911, in rural Wheatland to Johannes Hass and Emma Rathman. Hilda married Melvin Dickel February 22, 1933 in Calamus. Melvin died in 1992. Hilda was a member of St. Paul's Church and the Martha Aid. She also volunteered at Wheatland Manor and Senior Meals. Funeral services for Hilda will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at St. Paul's United Church Of Christ in Wheatland, Iowa. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-7pm on Friday, July 10, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. Hilda is survived by her daughters Joyce Vrooman of Santa Monica, California, Janice (Larry) Behne of Lowden, Iowa, and Joan (James) Hannah of Duncansville, Alabama; sons Merle of Walcott, Iowa and Karl (Kathy) of Wheatland, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, infant granddaughter, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
