Hilda C. "Snooks" Steffens, age 93, died on Monday December 26, 2016 at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home. Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Calamus on Thursday December 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Diane Prichard officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Calamus. Hilda was born on August 8, 1923 at Bennett, Iowa to Hans and Emma Lunow Schnack. She was united in marriage to LeVelle Steffens on July 2, 1945. He passed away December 26, 1967. Forty-Nine years ago when he was 49. Survivors include a son Gary(Judy) of Calamus; daughters Barbara Weiss of Calamus, Sandy(Marlon)Olson of Calamus, Debby(Michael)Behan of Bettendorf, Tammy(Jim)McDevitt of DeWitt, Kendra(Gary)Altman of Hamlinton City, TX.; sister-in-law Berneil "Trudy" Steines of Calamus; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, granddaughter, a son-in-law, and brother-in-laws Lloyd Steffens, Lester Fox, and Arno Rohwedder. Hilda and LeVelle started Steffen's Café on August 7, 1950 and ran it for many, many years. She was an avid cubs fan and enjoyed bowling.
