Ira "Mike" Long, age 87, of Stanwood, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after extended illness. Mike was born to Ira B. and Florence (Shriver) Long on November 15, 1921, in Clarence, Iowa. Mike married Betty Conrad on June 2, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Funeral services for Mike Long will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence with Reverend David Mears officiating. Burial will be in Stanwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Memorials may be made to Stanwood Ambulance. Mike served in the Army during World War II. After the service he began working for his father at Wald Implement and worked there until his retirement. He was a former member of the Stanwood Fire Department. Mike is survived by his wife Betty; son Michael (Michelle) of Lisbon; grandchildren Lindsae and Nicholas; and sister Eleonor (Web) Thoeming of Tipton. Mike was proceeded in death by his parents and sisters Liberta Meyer, Beverly Steinke, and Arlene Leinbaugh.
