Irene M. Sander, age 90, of Lowden, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 20, 2011. Irene was born July 20, 1920, in Lowden, Iowa to August Gade and Freida (Sieling) Gade. Irene married Lewis Sander on January 14, 1942 at Kahoka, MO. He died December 22, 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Zion United Church Of Christ in Lowden, Iowa, with Reverend Mark Buck officiating. Joy Combs will provide organ music. Burial will follow at Lowden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 23, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Irene had been employed by Dewitt Hospital and Lowden School as a cook until her retirement. She loved to bake coffee cake and pecan rolls and make potato salad. She also made quilts for people all over the U.S.A. and was an avid stock car racing fan of Gade Motorsports.
She is survived by sons Jimmy and Joey (Mary Jane) of Dewitt; daughters Judy (Marlin) Mowry and Janie (Tim) Drewelow of Lowden; grandchildren Eric (Allyson) Sander of West DesMoines, Kimberly (Matt) Sidlinger of Clinton, Gwen (Chris) VanGerpen of Decorah, Kimberly Miller, Matthew (Jenny) Drewelow of Cedar Rapids and Christopher Drewelow of Cedar Rapids; two great-granddaughters; and two brothers: Ralph Gade of Wheatland and Delmar Gade of Clarence.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lewis, sister Leona Wenndt and brother Leroy Gade.
