Jay P. Weiland, age 47, of Lowden, Iowa, died on October 2, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf after a 2-year battle with cancer. Jay was born September 16, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, IA to Frank Weiland and Doris (Mallinger) Weiland. Jay married Pam Hamdorf on February 2, 1988 in Lowden.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 6, 2011, at St. James Catholic Church in Toronto, Iowa, with Reverend Greg Steckel officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Big Rock, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 5, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland with a vigil service at 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or St. James Catholic Church.
Jay was the owner of JJJ Enterprises Inc. He loved work, family, spending time with friends, his grandchildren, and he loved vacationing with his brothers. Jay will be forever missed, but as Jay would say "suck it up cupcake"!
He is survived by wife Pam; sons Andy of Lowden and Dan (Gail) Hamdorf of Lowden; daughter Ashley (fiancee Jason Courtney) of Des Moines; foster son Chris Powers of Iowa City; 2 grandchildren; brothers John (Rose) of Davenport, Jim (Diane) of Camanche, Joe (Sally) of Mechanicsville, Jeff (Sue) of Cedar Rapids, and Jack (Patti) of Mechanicsville; sisters Pat (Jerry) Korzendorfer of Fort Atkinson, IA, Pam (Joe) Schumacher of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Peg (Scott) Peterson of Ogden, IA; brothers-in-law Gene (Jaynice) Hamdorf of Lowden, and Dean (Lisa) Hamdorf of Lowden; a very special sister-in-law Deb (Jan) Bartels of Toronto; in-laws Bob & Doreen Hamdorf of Lowden; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins that were very close to Jay.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerome.
