Jay Allen Proesch, age 63 of Clarence, passed away at his home on Wednesday July 30, 2025. Funeral services will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence on Tuesday August 5 at 10:30 AM with Janet Shotwell officiating. Visitation will also be at the church on Monday August 4 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Jay was born December 6, 1961 in Davenport, Iowa to Jerry and Judith Proesch. He married Michele Pruess on February 1, 1992 at St. John's in Clarence.

Jay is survived by his wife Michele; children Taylor of Clarence, Brody (Alexis) of Wheatland, and Karlie (fiancée Garrett Billington) of Wyoming, IA; mother Judy of Lowden; brothers Jon (Alicia) of Riverdale, ND and Joby (Kyle) of Lowden; 3 honorary grandchildren Brantley, Benson, and Bauer Pruess; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and in-laws Harlan and Elaine Pruess.

Jay was a lifelong farmer and cattleman and owned Proesch Custom Fencing for 20 years. A proud father, Jay absolutely adored his three children and shared a special bond with the Pruess boys, who he loved as his own. His love knew no limits and was expressed in quiet acts of loyalty—like calling his mother every single morning, a ritual that reflected his deep respect and care for her.

Jay was no stranger to hard work. Whether it was in his professional life or volunteering in the community, he gave his all. As a former 4-H leader for the Harmony Hustlers, Jay poured his time and energy into guiding the next generation, teaching them responsibility, resilience, and how to have a little fun along the way. And fun he certainly had—especially when arm wrestling. A true powerhouse, Jay earned the title of 1981 State Arm Wrestling Champion, a badge of honor he wore with both pride and humility.
