Jeannette Brendes, age 99 of Clarence, passed away Monday July 11, 2022 at Clarence Senior Living. Funeral services will be held on Friday July 15 at 2:00 PM at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Rev. Matt Schneider-Adams officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Clarence. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time at the church. Jeannette was born August 22, 1922 in rural Lowden to Dietrich and Meta Schlueter Meyer. She married Ralph Brendes on January 30, 1944 in Gainsville, TX. He passed away on August 1, 1986. Survivors include her daughter Barbara (Robert) Young of Cedar Rapids; sons James (Janet) of Martelle and Galen (Sherry) of Marion; daughter in-law Lori Brendes of Cedar Rapids; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother Harlan (Shirley) Meyer of Stanwood; sister Betty Ann Miller of Tipton; and sister in-law Erna Brendes of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Robert; granddaughter Melissa Brendes; brothers Dwain and Richard Meyer (and his wife Joan); and brother in-laws John Miller and Merle Brendes. Jeannette was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and was an avid Cubs fan. She was a charter member of the Women's Bowling League and was a spelling bee champion in her earlier years. Jeannette was a very charming and positive lady who treasured every member of her family and kept them close to her heart, but she also was a little ornery! She was nominated and received the Quality Program Award for Volunteer of the Year in 2016 that she was very proud of. Jeannette read her bible every day and read it cover to cover numerous times.
