JoAnn Van Waes, age 78, passed away on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at the Wheatland Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday July 29, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church in Toronto at 9:30 A.M with Father William Kneemiller officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 28, 2013 from 2-4 P.M at Chapman's in Wheatland.
JoAnn was born on April 21, 1935 to Ira Otis and Virginia Clay (Brown) Myers in Elbert, West Virginia. She married Bill Van Waes on January 28, 1954 in Gary, West Virginia.
JoAnn was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW & Amvets Auxillary. She loved gospel music, and loved to sing and craft as well.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; son, Kerry of Lowden; three brothers, David (Helen) Myers of Princeton, West Virginia, Gene (Marcy) Myers of Newport News, Virginia, and Ralph (Gloria) Myers of Mooresville, North Carolina; sisters, Phyllis Rutherford of Welch, West Virginia and Marlene Martin of Mt. Gilead, Ohio; granddaughter, Lexi Scott of Hooper, Nebraska; seven nieces; and 14 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Kathy, sisters; Edith and Joan, and brothers; Jim and Walt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Genesis Hospice.
