John D. Murray, age 49, of Wheatland, Iowa, died on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at University Hospital in Iowa City, IA. John was born July 9, 1961, in Kansas City, KS to Frank Murray and Peggy (Phillips) Murray. John married Jana Voelkel on September 17, 1988 at Methodist Church in Eldridge. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at St. Paul's United Church Of Christ in Wheatland, with Rev. John Cofield and Rev. Doug Reynolds officiating. An inurnment will be held at a later date. A gathering of friends and relatives will be from noon to service time at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Chapman Funeral Home-Wheatland. John was a graduate of Washington High School, Cedar Rapids. He had worked as a roofer for 20 years and most recently worked for Uniparts Olsen in Eldridge. He is survived by wife Jana; daughter Jocelyn of Wheatland; son Justin of Afghanistan, and son Jordan at home; mother and stepfather Peggy and Erwin (Leo) McElligott of Cedar Rapids; brother David and sister Terri. John was preceded in death by father and brother Tom.
