John M. Troughton, age 36 of Stanwood, passed away on Monday July 9, 2018 at Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A private family graveside service will be held at the Stanwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 12 from 5-7 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. John was born on May 26, 1982 to Edward Paul and Ginger Kay (Wenman) Troughton in Iowa City. He married Christa Nanke on June 16, 2006 at Lake McBride. John was a great math teacher, father, husband, and brother. He most recently taught at Cedar Rapids Jefferson and was an adjunct professor at Kirkwood Community College. John loved reading, learning, and grew up on video games. He loved being with his family and coaching his kids and had a knack for making people laugh. John graduated from Iowa City High in 2000 and The University of Northern Iowa in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in math education. John is survived by his wife, Christa; children, Samantha, James, Kaylea & Ethan; mother, Ginger (Rex Dawson) of Riverside; brother, Lennie (Lisa) Troughton of Riverside; sister, Katie (Chad) Fiegen; and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. A memorial fund has been established.
