June Wentworth, 92 of Wheatland, passed away this week after an extended illness. June was born on a summer day in 1925 to Henry and Martha (Sievers) Holdorf. June graduated from Wheatland High School, Mount Saint Claire Academy, and Marycrest College. She began her career teaching in one room schoolhouses in the rural Wheatland area, eventually moving to the Lost Nation School District, where she taught for the majority of her career. She married Charles Wentworth in 1945 and they enjoyed many decades together. They farmed on her family's Century Farm near Wheatland while they both taught in Lost Nation. They shared many interests, such as fishing in Canada, bird watching, and traveling extensively both stateside and abroad. Most of all, they loved being active grandparents. June was a character who always had a twinkle in her eye. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's UCC in Wheatland, IA, where she served as the first female member of the church consistory. She loved kids more than adults and spent time in her later years volunteering in various church groups helping children. June also enjoyed her many card clubs, wearing Chanel No. 5 for good luck while trout fishing, and foraging in country ditches for wildflowers to use in her gorgeous award-winning floral arrangements. She loved farm life, especially gardening and tending to her flock of chickens. Preceding June in death were her husband, parents, sister Jeanette Ruprecht and brother-in-law Carl Ruprecht, niece Sally Hess, great-grandsons Max, Jude, and Henry Dehner, and countless chickens. Survivors include daughter Wendy and son-in-law Brent Blake (who brought her great joy in her final days), grandchildren Ross (Jacalyn) Blake and Courtney (Andrew Dehner) Blake, great-granddaughters Madeline and Clara Blake and Millie Dehner, nephew Jeff (Judy) Ruprecht and niece Martha (Joe) Mattes. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, the family suggests one of the following ways to honor June's memory: -Teach a special child in your life a card game or take them fishing and show them how to bait their own hook -Take a grandparent or older friend out for a festive lunch -Spend an afternoon or longer volunteering in your local community The family has elected not to have a visitation. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
