Kathleen "Katie" L. Meyer, age 82, of Stanwood, Iowa, died on March 26, 2012 at home. Kathleen "Katie" L. Meyer, age 82, of Stanwood, Iowa, died on March 26, 2012 at home. Katie was born September 3, 1929, in Iowa City, IA to Douglas Thompson and Johanna (Brodeen) Thompson. Katie married Kenneth Meyer on December 14, 1947 at Stanwood. He died November 6, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Stanwood Union Church in Stanwood, Iowa, with Pastor Phil Leipold officiating. Burial will follow at Stanwood Cemetery in Stanwood, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 28, at the Chapman's Funeral Home in Clarence. Katie was a Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Stanwood Union Church, Red Hat Club and bookkeeper for numerous organizations and individuals. Katie was a huge sports fan of North Cedar, especially for her grandchildren. Anyone wishing to wear a hat would be appreciated. She is survived by sons, Mark of Stanwood and Kent (friend Delta Richardson) of Coralville; a daughter, Joan (Tom) Hanna of Mechanicsville; grandchildren Phillip Meyer, Jason Meyer, Brodee Hanna, Mary Beth Hanna, Alyssa Meyer, and Krista Meyer; great-grandchildren Andrew Meyer, Zach Meyer, and Landon Meyer; brother Steve Thompson of Keokuk, IA; and sister Marcia (Don) Villhauer of Rochester, IA. Katie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
