Kathryn Julia Paul Utley, age 91, passed away on May 3, 2023. Funeral services will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence on May 12, 2023 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Matt Schneider-Adams officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Clarence.
Kathryn, the daughter of William and Edna (Boettcher) Mingst, was born August 8, 1931 on the family farm south of Clarence.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence where she remained a member. She had lived most of her life in the Clarence area, graduating in 1949 from the Clarence Consolidated School. In 1952 she graduated from St. Luke's Methodist Hospital School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse. She worked at the Grinnell Hospital in Grinnell, Iowa and the Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, Illinois. She became Dr. Utley's nurse of 33 years on July 13, 1961.
On August 5, 1953 she married Wayne Paul. He passed away in July of 1989. They were parents of 2 sons, David and Michael. She was married to Dr. George Howard Utley on December 5, 1991 in Morrison, Illinois and they made their home in Clarence, Iowa.
She is survived by her son Dr. Michael Paul of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren Jonathan Paul and Jennifer Eureka, Stephen Paul, Elizabeth Paul, Alex Paul, and Zachary Paul; great-grandchildren Victoria Paul, Julian Paul, Emery Eureka, Wyatt Paul, Wes Paul; step-families Jean (Craig) Nelson and Bill (Kayla) Utley; step-grandchildren Kurt Fabregas, Birch Fabregas, Greer Fabregas, Trek Fabregas, Colton Utley, Katie Ward, Libby Ward; step-great grandson Andrew Flynt; and sister in-law Mildred Mingst.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Husbands Wayne and George; son David; brother Roland Mingst; sister Dorothy Pingle; brother in-laws Keith Paul and Luverne Pingel; and also her beloved fur child Molly.
Kathryn enjoyed square dancing, sewing, and quilting. Kathryn will be fondly remembered as a loving nurse, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife.
